The Role of Land-cover Change in Montane Mainland Southeast Asia in Altering Regional Hydrological Processes Under a Changing Climate Project Data The EWC's NASA MMSEA project has acquired and used an extensive spatial database for the MMSEA region and for the specific study sites within the region, including northern Thailand, northern Laos and Xishuangbanna prefecture, China. The illustration below has been updated to reflect our data holdings as of April 2007. Raster datasets include Corona satellite imagery dating back to the 1960s to ASTER satellite imagery ranging between 2001 and 2006-7. Aerial photographs exist for various dates for each of the specific study sites. Resolutions of the entire collection range from 0.6m to 1km cells, depending on the raster dataset. New raster datasets have been generated by the project including detailed land cover maps of theMae Sa watershed in northern Thailand as well as the Nam Ken watershed in Xishuangbanna, China. Land cover simulation maps have been generated for the MMSEA region at 1km resolution, at annual time steps for the years 2001 - 2050, and under different change scenarios. Various feature datasets have been acquired dating from 1965 to 2006 and at scales ranging from 1:50,000 to 1:250,000. Most recent acquisitions include detailed thematic GIS layers and GPS ground truth data for northern Laos as well as location-based climate and hydrological observations from the project study watersheds, including Mae Sa, Thailand and Nam Ken, China. Statement regarding Obtaining Datasets Currently, the primary mechanism for obtaining datasets is by contacting Jeff Fox (foxj@eastwestcenter.org) or John Vogler (voglerj@eastwestcenter.org) and requesting specific datasets. Requested datasets are then packaged, zipped and placed on a server where the requester can download. The project website lists the various datasets that are available with static graphics illustrating each dataset. We plan to upload selected datasets to our website as standalone zip files that the broader community may access and download at any time without making a separate request. However, our web server space is currently very limited and thus larger image and raster files cannot be made available in this manner at this time. A separate request to Dr. Fox or Mr. Vogler must be made for larger imagery files. The raw, location-based
climate and hydrological observations are available for download at
any time from a link off of our main project data page. That link is:

or use the Recording Station Data link below. Once there, the user may
view and download ground photos, raw data spreadsheets related to soil
moisture, rainfall, streamflow, and notes associated with climate and
hydrological stations installed in each of the two study watersheds.
Field Observations Recording Station Data - Regularly updated hydrological measurements and other observations for recording stations established within Mae Sa (Thailand) and Nam Ken (China) watersheds. Includes rainfall, streamflow, soil properties, ground photographs and station visit notes. Geospatial Database Snapshots (for more information contact John Vogler)
